One of the most anticipated music festival in Jakarta was happening last weekend. We The Fest 2017 or WTF returned this year, bringing international and local artists for three days long of fun and festivities. Headlined by The Kooks, Phoenix and Big Sean, We The Fest 2017 was all about good music, good people, and good time.

Day 1
With so many great lineup this year, sprinting from one stage to another became a routine. The first in our list was Shura, a singer-songwriter based in West London who is known for her revamped 80’s and 90’s R&B sounds. Her soulful voice and performance awed the audience as they sang along. Also hailing from England, her catchy songs and energetic vibes were contagious. The crowd were dancing eagerly, especially when her song featuring Icona Pop “I Love it” was being performed. When talking about who stole the show, Charli XCX has got to be one of them. Two of our local favorites came together to present something a collaboration that has never been done before, Rock N Roll Mafia x Elephant Kind. Taking place on the laidback “Another Stage”, they performed their own songs that the audience were already familiar with. Good vibes were all around the air. Our favorite of the day was Lido. The talented musician behind the moniker is Norwegian Peder Losnegård. His live show was nothing short of amazement. More than just press and play, his performance incorporate drums and keys while singing. His beats brought the crowd into a trance, the pinnacle of the day. We ended the first day of We The Fest with Zhu, who surprised us by playing Linkin Park’s Faint as a tribute to Chester Bennington.

Day 2
We kicked off the second day of We The Fest 2017 by watching Potret, a legendary name in the local music name. Fronted by Melly Goeslaw, their nostalgic session brought us euphoria with their hit songs. Next, Korean Hip Hop group Epik High really knew how to move their crowd. Performing their hit energetic songs as well as mellow tracks like “Eyes Nose Lips”, Epik High was not to be missed. Talking about engaging performance, Gnash was the winner. This American singer-songwriter, DJ, and producer invited the audience to sing along to this songs with very personal background stories. Finally, the it was time for the long awaited Phoenix to perform. Playing both old and new songs, the crowd was in a frenzy. The visuals for the performance was stunning. As the night became late, the music became even more danceable with Snakehips. We wrapped the day with Troyboi, London producer with rich hip hop roots.

Day 3
The last day of We The Fest 2017 was nothing but fun and dance. We began our day by watching Elephant Kind, a local pop/hybrid band. The atmosphere was laidback and a lot of people sang along. Next was the stunning british Dua Lipa. Her live performance was jaw dropping. Local act GAC performed with Isyana Sarasvati, The Overtunes, Fatin and Jaz to present a beautiful ensemble that has never been seen before. Another local act that we really enjoyed was Onar. The performance was energetic, conveying strong messages about current issues. Although Hot Chip wasn’t headlining, they were the most anticipated act of the day. Playing a spectacular mix of 80’s house music, the crowd couldn’t resist to dance along. For hip hop fans, Big Sean’s performance was engaging. It’s not everyday that we get to see a big name in the Hip Hop scene to play in Indonesia. Finally, the night ended by dancing to Wave Racer, an electronic music producer that wrapped the festival perfectly.
